The second leg of my European tour took place on a stunning, small island which is also designated UNESCO Biosphere. Whilst most of my visits were in Spanish (a language I’m pretty comfortable in), one school had a bilingual group, so asked for the book to be read in English (phew!) I was already astounded by how knowledgeable children on the island were about litter and waste – both on land and in the sea. But to hear 7 year olds being able to communicate about ways of protecting the coral reef in a language that isn’t their mother tongue is awe-inspiring! These are the marine biologists, environmental scientists and politicians of tomorrow. The future of the planet would appear to be safe if these kids are anything to go by! 🙂
