I’ve lived for almost 5 years beside the most beautiful park in Yorkshire (and maybe even England!) – Beaumont Park in Huddersfield. It was one of the reasons I made the move up from London and it inspires me creatively on the daily dog walk during every season of the year. In 2017 and 2018, I read my book “Hector Helps Clean Up The Park” there – the real life park keeper being my good friend John, who all the children just love!
At the start of 2019, I was approached with every writer’s dream – a large-scale commission right on my doorstep. I have spent the last 4 months working on the text for an environmental storytime trail in the park and draft version has just been completed. Now the fun starts, as we we get feedback from the local community to ensure we can polish it and make it as engaging, informative and enjoyable as possible for both children and adults. The illustrator and wood carver are getting underway with their work and as we’re all local to the area, we get to throw ideas around in person on a regular basis. We’re basically being paid to play… which is when all the best creative stuff happens!
